First steps with R
Overview
R is a powerful and flexible programming language used by academics, corporations and governments all over the world.
This course will give an introduction to R basics and RStudio, an integrated development environment for R, in an interactive manner.
It is designed to:
- Give students an introduction to the programming language R
- Provide a sound understanding of R data types and data structures
- Became confident in the analysis of data with RStudio environment
- Appreciate and apply the R programming from a statistical perspective
- Acquire foundations, essential for more advanced programming courses with R
Requirements
Prior knowledge
No prior knowledge in programming is required, while a genuine interest in statistical programming is welcome. This course assumes you are comfortable with basic math, algebra and logical operations.
Material
Each student must bring their own laptop with R and RStudio installed with recent versions. Please check the install tutorial to set it up prior to the course.
Course materials will be made available on this site under Lectures and Practicals as the course develops.

Dates and time
The course consist of interleaved lectures and hands-on exercises followed by a wrap-up and questions session.
